Powerpoint Crashes when using drop down menu to open files-fix it?

A

Alan

When I am opening files in powerpoint, whenever I attempt to use the dropdown
menu to open a file I get the program (not responding) messge and must choose
to "end now." It only happens when I use the dropdown menue after choosing
the open option from the tool bar. Any ideas on how to fix this?

One, make sure that all the Office, and windows updates are installed.

Two, you may also want to completely rebuild your toolbar/menu file.

Rename "C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Application
Data\Microsoft\PowerPoint\PPT11.pcb"
(where User Name is your user account name and PPT11 is your PowerPoint
Version number.)
to "C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Application
Data\Microsoft\PowerPoint\PPT11.bak".

When you open PowerPoint next, it will completely rebuild your toolbar file
from scratch. Of course this means that you customizations will be lost,
but that is a small price to pay to resolve a fatal crash issue.

If these first two suggestions do not resolve your crashing problem, please
drop us a note back and we'll dig a bit deeper.
