Predecessor Not Responding

My predecessors no longer seem to be working. (Microsoft Project 2003)
They worked last week. I changed the predecessor and the dates adjusted accordingly.
Today, I change a predecessor and the dates do not adjust.
It does not seem to be specific to one project plan, but rather all project plans. For example, I've opened three different plans and the predeccesors don't work in any of them.

Could I have accidentally changed something in a Microsoft Project default?

The most lilkely problem is calculations are set to manual. Try
Tools/Options pull the Calculations tab and select automatic. You can always
force a calculation of the project by pressing F9.

Since this is happening for all projects, it appears you issue would be at a
global level.

On additional note: I opened up a blank project plan, created nine tasks,
divided them with three summary tasks, added predecessors ... and all task
starting dates still show starting project date (ignoring the predecessor
information).

Set calculations to Automatic.
Tools/Options/Calculations (tab) Choose Automatic. Click OK.
