Predecessors tab goes grey

B

brandon erndt

i am trying to grab a bunch of tasks and make a previous task a predecessor
for all of them, but when I grab them all and then right-click to get to task
information the predecessor tab is greyed out when the task information comes
up.

Why is this? Can I do something about it?

I don't want to go to each task individually and add this predecessor.

thanks

Hi Brandon ,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

I suppose it was designed that way:( The quickest way to do this is from
the Gantt Chart view, select the first task and then Window/Split. Click
in the lower pane. Click on the ID cell of the Predecessor Name and enter
the ID number of the predecessor and press Enter key three times - the first
enters the data, the second tells Project that you have nothing further to
add to this task, and the third activates the Next button to move down to
the next task. So, if the ID was , say 4: 4, Enter, Enter, Enter, 4,
Enter, Enter, Enter...

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Hi,

When teh tasks are consecutive in the list you can use Copy Down in the
predecesors columns (and all its excel-like variations)

Or you could insert the Predecessor column, enter the correct number
for the first task of the group, then drag that value down the rest of
the group.

Yes, Sarah, why didn't I think of that !!!!!! If the tasks are not
contiguous, you could use a Flag field to identify them all, filter on the
Flag and then fill down.
