Preview pane / opening email

With all the suspicious email coming in with mydoom on it -
I just wanted to verify that when you preview an email -
it doesn't "open" it. Can anyone put my fears to rest? :)

Thanks~!

Sorry but, it does "open" it and our system admin tells us
to not use it for this very reason.

It does open but it is not able to run scripts so it is safe.

Also if your administrator does a good job with blocking certain file-types
(default for Outlook 2000 with security update and Outlook XP/2002 and
Outlook 2003), installed a spamfilter and keeps the virusscanner up to date
you are in a very secure environment and shouldn't be worried when opening a
mail.

From my point of view; if your sys admin says it is not safe he is not
confident that he is doing a proper job.
