Printer accepting Publisher Files

Lea

I am a wholesale thermographer with a mac based ctp system. We use Quark templates to print all jobs to plate. I have never used Publisher and our composition dept tells me that we cannot accept Publisher files. We also have trouble with true type fonts. I would like to be able to tell customers what to do to be able to accept these files. Our customers are printers, kinko's, mail box stores, print brokers. Are there any simple instructions I can give customers to convert files from Publisher to pdf so that we can accept these files?

I recommend that you accept Publisher files. Visit the following link
for more information as to how to obtain a free copy, receive free
commercial printing support for Publisher and to be listed as a
Publisher recipient:

and here is some preflight information for Publisher files:

If you insist on avoiding Publisher, have a look at the following link:

There is no direct to pdf process in Publisher.

The procedure is no different than with any other app...you print to
postscript then distill it.

The problem comes in when the client doesn't have Distiller or when they try
to out think you and give you pdf that are useless.

That is why handling the native files is important in this market...because
you cannot count on the user to have the additional tools or knowledge to
provide proper files.

Like RGB color for a 1-color job. Hard to fix in PDF, usually
straightforward in native.

If you need a conversion source let me know. I'm a servie bureau capable of
handling Publisher files and of producing PDF that will work with your
system.

Trouble with True Type? Why's that? The only TTF I've had trouble with for a
very long time have been mac system fonts that don't have embedding
privileges (Chicago, etc). I think Apple cranked out new versions.
