Printing a merged to file

Hello,

I have searched for this topic but did not find another similar
question.

I am merging mail addresses to a four up postcard form. If I merge to a
document and try to print it, I either get four copies of the same
address on each sheet or one copy in the middle of the four up form. If
I merge to the printer, I get four addresses per sheet in the right
place. That would be fine, but some of the addresses are long enough
that they wrap and they wrap in a place where the program decides. Foe
example: Johnathan Quixley & Jane Elizabeth Doe may wrap to be
"Johnathan Quixley & Jane Eliza-" on the first line and "beth Doe" on
the second. Where I have the merged cards as a document, I can quickly
go through them and change the line break to be just before Jane.
Nothing like making a good first impres-
sion.

Thanks for your help.

Hi, Steve -

This might work for you:

If the design is absolutely what I want but I have some entries that are too
long, I add another field to the data source and call it "long"- and then put
an X in the rows of the names that have been too long when you view the mail
merge. In the Publisher document you can sort or filter using that field to
exclude the names that are too long for the label. ( "long" does not equal
"X" ) Print that merge.

Do a "save as" of the Publisher document file and then re-adjust the text
box or spacing or font/font size to get the design to work for your longest
name. Set the "sort" to pick out just the long entries (in my example above:
long=x ) Print that merge.
