printing problem word excel office cutting off last line

I have vista and a hp multifunction printer (don't have model right now)

I can print documents fine from IE or notepad, but when I try to print from
excel or word, the last line of each page is cut off.

Even if the word doc is only half a page, the last line is cut off. I
thought it was a margin problem, and tried adjusting them, but that would
really only affect a whole page of text. So, when half a page chops off a
line, what is the problem?

I have reinstalled the printer drivers. No luck.

This problem, btw, is intermittent. Sometimes the pages print correctly,
sometimes not.

I don't know where to go with this, and I have an immediate need to fix it.
All help will be appreciated. My job is on the line here.
