PROBLEM IMPORTING TIFFS, HELP!!

W

Who Cares??

When I try to import an 8 meg tiff file, I get AN ERROR warning.
I am able to bring in a small gif file but not the bigger one.
Is there some kind of cap to the size or something?
I don't recall having this problem ever, but now it is messing me up.
I've tried copy and pasting, importing, everything!
Thanks for any tips!!

There have been some problems reported with
importing files over 1mb.
You might try moving the file in using Windows
Explorer.

But, to publish a file that size, you will
probably have to publish via ftp.

That said, do you realize how long
it will take for an 8mb tiff to display
in a browser??

Have you thought of converting it to a jgp
or gif file??

Thanks, Steve.
Actually I was just wanting to upload it to my site so that someone could download the file.
I would just have a typed hyperlink to download it. I'm surprised that FP can't handle something simple like that.
I did try moving it in via Explorer, and it seemed to work, but it doesn't show in FP directory for the site.
I'm stumped.

It doesn't show in the directory for the site
because: 1. fp doesn't recognize the extension
and 2. it probably doesn't know it's there because
it was brought in via windows. ( unfortunately )

There's a bug report in the works about the issue with
file sizes

The problem, according to Microsoft, is that, "Because of a vulnerability in
the .dll files that are associated with each of these file formats, these
file formats are not supported in FrontPage 2003."

I wonder if the "vulnerability" is to Windows (on the server) or if Linux is
equally vulnerable. If it is the former, as I suspect, essentially Microsoft
is saying, "we can't build a secure operating system, so we will constrain
the files you can use."

Neither.
<imho>
Because of the inherently large size of tiffs it's too easy to embed
malicious code inside them.
Do a Google search for stenography.
</imho>

Also, given the other formats available, what is the advantage or purpose of
using a tiff image??

All Ya Need is Love!

The problem is; if you would like to have someone could click on a
hyperlink to a tiff file in your site, such as an ad pic or hi-res scan for
pick-up, you can't.
I notice a lot of companies that make their advertising artwork available on
line in tiff form.
The bummer is, with FP, you can't do that.
