Hello Everyone,

Trying to install MS Office Pro 2003 OEM (New) on New Computer using Windows
Vista Home. It should be a simple thing, right??? Can't get the software
installed. I let my nephew try it, who graduated from college recently and
has a degree in computer programing and he could not do it. The problem, he
said, is the Windows Installer needs Updated. He clams they evidently do
not know the problem exists or have not found a fix for it. I have used
computers when Windows did not exist yet and grew with Windows and have
never had a problem putting older software on a newer Windows. Why is this
so hard, and am I getting correct info. Please don't tell me to try to
install it by right clicking on the installer and using the open choice. I
have already been there and done that!! Does anyone have some advice that
really works? I am a cat at the end of my nine installments!!

Sincerely,
Catswhiskers

You didn't say if you have Uninstalled the Free Trial Version of Office that
came pre-loaded on your machine. While Uninstalling, don't forget the
Activation Assistant.

I'm not aware of OEM versions of the Office Suite, but there OEM versions of
Windows.

After all of that, there's not enough information to ascertain why your copy
of Office '03 will not install to Vista. Office '03 should run perfectly
well under Vista, so it's difficult with the scant information you have
given to understand what the issues might be.

Cats:

This might not actually help you, but I was able to install a "new"
unused Office 2003 OEM onto my new Win 7/64 Pro desktop. It installed
perfectly easily. I'm sure vista would also allow it.

I did have problems for a week or two with it complaining about needing
to be authorized by MS. It worked anyway and one day that warning just
stopped happening.

Happy now.

Thank you for your advice. Yes, we did activate a 2007 trial version but
did not wish to keep it. We did uninstall it and the activation software.
We did try a new "windows installer" but it did not work. What should we
try next???

Thank you so much for your attempt to help with the problem we are having.
I believe it should install easily, also. What is keeping it from being
able to install???

There's no reason that Office '03 can't be installed to a Vista machine.

Is your copy of Office an Upgrade Version? If yes, then you need to have a
qualified base so the installation will proceed.

No, the OEM Office 2003 Pro is not an update. I agree with you, there
should not be any reason it can not be installed on Vista!! What can I do
next?

Okay, that is hopeful, Sardine, so what do you advise I do next to get down
to the problem??
