Problem installing Office 2003

F

Frank McCown

I am not able to install Office 2003 from CD or from my hard drive.
When I put the CD in, it will not autoplay, and when I try to run
setup.exe, it will appear to load but will not execute.

I thought this might be a problem because I had Office XP installed,
so I uninstalled Office XP. It still didn't work. So I deleted the
Microsoft Office directory manually (there we a few files left) and
ran regclean to clean out any bad registry settings. It still won't
run setup.

After searching the newsgroup I couldn't find anyone who was
experiencing the same problem. Any ideas?

I'm running Windows XP Pro SP2.

Thanks,
Frank

From my own experience, I think these problems affect Office 97 and
later versions are OK* but it's sure worth a try! Let us know if it
fixes the problem. The OP is trying to install Office XP which
installed perfectly on my PC with SP-2 and did so twice, once after a
format and clean install (don't ask!).

*the symptoms are failure to register one of the HTML files in the
registry which is different from what the OP described?

Many people report problems with installing Office when Windows XP
That did it! I uninstalled Win SP2 and the Office 2003 CD installed
just fine. Then after installing the Office service packs I
reinstalled SP2, and everything is running just fine. Thanks for the
advice.
