Problem setting default file format to Project*.MPP in Project 200

C

When I go to Tools-Options-Save and in the "Save Microsoft Office Project
files as"
I change it to "Project (*.MPP)" and close and reopen project. It reverts
back to save as "Microsoft Project 2000-2003 (*.MPP)" How do I get it to
default to "Project (*.MPP)" only?
Thanks in advanced for any help.

You can set the default file type when save in the 'Tools - Options - Save -
Save Microsoft Office Project Files as' option.

Hi Rafael,
Thanks for responding to my question.
I did set the default in the 'Tools - Options - Save -
Save Microsoft Office Project Files as' option. but when I restart project
it goes back to 2000-2003 .MPP format. Any Ideas why it does this?
Thanks,
Chris

Hi,

We are having the same issue; won't save default of .mpp - keeps defaulting
to .mpp 2003 version.

Any other ideas?

Thanks...

Gerry.

Gerry,

Sorry I can't reproduce the error here. Do you have SP-1 installed to
Project 2007? What operating system are you using? Are you working
with Project Server? To the best of my knowledge, the settings in
Tools > Options on a stand alone installation of MS Project are saved
in the Global.mpt file. For some reason, do you not have the ability
to save changes to the Global.mpt file?

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hi Julie,

Thanks for pointing me in the direction of the Global.mpt file. I have
found it locally and renamed it and deleted it. I then opened Project 2007
sp1 and it recreated the global.mpt file and I changed the save as to default
to MPP, closed the application & reopened and it was setback to the 2003
version.

Gerry.

Hi Gerry,

You're welcome although it doesn't sound like my advice worked :)

I assume you found the Global.mpt file in your local user directory.
When you change the setting in Project and exit, does the modified
date of the Global file change?

Yes it does, but doesn't change my default 'save as'... it just reverts back
to the 2003 mpp setting. ??? We do have EPM and even if I connect to the
server or work-offline, same thing.

Hi Gerry,

I've got to admit, I'm stumped. As you are using EPM, try posting the
details of the problem (including the steps you've tried to fix) to
the server newsgroup. It may have something to do with using an
enterprise global file that may have setting which over ride your
local settings. I'm not well versed enough in EPM to say whether that
could be at the route or not.

You're welcome Gerry. Good luck and I'll keep an eye out for your
post, and hopefully an answer :)
