Problem with account settings

G

Gerry Wolff

I would like to send messages from Outlook where the 'from' field
contains one of my Gmail addresses or an email address that has been
set up for me by a friend using a different ISP from the one that I am
using.

As far as I can see, the only way I can do this is to set up a new
account on Outlook for each email address that I want to use in that
way. But this is where the problems start.

When it asks for the incoming server, the outgoing server and the
password for each account, it is not clear to me what I should put in.

I have tried putting in the settings for my ISP but that does not
work. In any case, the concept of incoming and outgoing server is not
relevant for Gmail addresses.

How can I solve these problems. I simply want to send emails 'from'
one of my email addresses that is different from the one given to me
by my ISP.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Each e-mail service provider will have given you the POP server address
(incoming mail) SMTP server address (outgoing mail) - and gmail can indeed
be setup to use pop mail - see
http://www.gmayor.com/use_google_gmail_to_remove_spam.htm (though some of
the dialogs are a little out of date the principles remain good and the
Outlook dialogs should cover the parts that you are having difficulty with).
