Problem with an import

B

Becky Gruebmeyer

I am trying to use data in a project database based in lotus notes and
import it into Microsoft Project. I am able to do an import. The problem
comes in when I am trying to get subtasks to appears as subtasks in
Microsoft Project. I have discovered that I need to import a field
signifying if the task is a summary or not, which I have done. But when I
import, it just keeps indenting each item further and further under the
first item. What I need to know is if there is a field that signals what
the main task is for each subtask so that I can map it to group these items
together and then start the next main task as a new summary. What I am
getting now looks similar to this:

Main Task
Subtask
Subtask
Main Task
Subtask
Subtask
Subtask
Main Task
Main Task

Any ideas what I am missing to get this to import correctly?

Do not use the Summary field, as that is the source of your indenting
problem. Instead, use the Outline Level field to signify how far to indent
each task. Main summary tasks, such as Phases, would be set to Outline
Level 1, and subtasks under those main summary tasks would be set to Outline
Level 2. Hope this helps.
