Calculate duration rather than # of days between two dates

Hi,

I have a project which is broken into various tasks. One of the tasks,
let's call it documentation, has subtasks which need to occur on specific
dates. I need to identify how many days of work it will take. When I enter
all the subtasks, Project is counting the days between the start of the first
subtask and finish of the last subtask. It gives me a total of 17 days, when
there is only 13 days of work.

It only seems to be this task/subgroup - I have another one that is subtasks
on different days and it's calculating it fine! Just can get this one to do
it - what am I doing wrong?

Ta!

Project is calculating the duration as you describe. Look to see if you
have Work days where there is nothing going on, you willprobably have 4 of
them.

Example: Task1 is on Monday 10/5 for 1 day. Task 2 is the following Monday
10/12 for 2 days (ends on the 9th calendar day after the first task starts.
The summary task correctly calcuates 7 days (work days). Note there are
four days where nothing is happening. Project does not calculate the
non-working time of the weekends.

Settings for these parameters are available on Tools/Options/Schedule tab.
Should you need to change the work schedule, try Tools/Change Working
Time...

Hi,

Thanks for that, however there are other tasks that occur on those days. If
I change those days, it alters my other tasks :(

Hello Sian,

If you add the Work field to the table (Insert > Column) does it
show the correct number of hours of work? From your comment of
"needs to occur on specific dates" I am guessing you have
constraints on those tasks to force them to either begin or end on
specific dates? Do you have special calendars assigned to any tasks
where you've modified the working days -- perhaps to include a
Saturday or Sunday? Do you have resources assigned to tasks that
have an altered work schedule working a Saturday or Sunday?

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
