Problem with "New Email" sound file

In Outlook 2000 I have a wave file for my "new email"
sound. A couple of weeks ago I started getting a "beep"
sound instead of my wave. I have tried to change the wave
to another sound and it stills just "beeps"... any ideas
as to what is happening here? (The sound file does play
correctly from Control Panel.)
