Problem With Office XP Small Business

I have a Dell with XP Home and XP Small Business Edition. For some reason I
have started having problems. If I go to the Microsoft website and try to
scan for updates ,it won't scan. It says it is unable to check for updates. I
tried to search for help at Microsoft but you have to send them your bank
account number. I also have two updates for Net Framework that won't install.
.. When I click on Exel or Word it says to install CD. But when you close the
pop up Word or Exel works fine. If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it.

WilliamP,
Actually you do not have to send your bank account number to Microsoft for
information on Windows or Office products. There is a knowledge base here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;en-us;KBHOWTO
More information here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;242450
or you can search your q here before posting:
http://www.microsoft.com/office/community/en-us/default.mspx
This article may apply:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;304498
If not post back with your Windows and Office service pack level, someone
may be able to provide more information for you.
If Office Online had this interface for the related communites it would be
easier to find answers before posting, thus saving time and using the
available resources of the Office community quickly...

use the Office Online web based newsreader here:

In Office System 2003 applications:
Help/Assistance Pane/open Communities
