Problem with text fields in Visio Viewer 2002

Dear all,

we put the text that is to be displayed as Shape text into a user-defined
property of the shape. Then we insert this property as field.

Viewing our Visio drawings with Visio Viewer 2003 works fine, but Visio
Viewer 2002 does not show the shape texts.

If a shape text is directly written into the Shape's Text property, it is
displayed correctly. However, text fields that get their values from user
properties are not displayed with Visio Viewer 2002.

My question: Is this a known issue?

Thanks & best regards,
Markus

John,

I forgot to say that our application saves Visio 2003 drawings in the 2002
format, since we have to support Visio 2003 and Visio 2002.

The issue is that the Visio Viewer 2002 does not display the text of a shape
if the text is retrieved from a user property via a text field.

You will probably ask why our customers are using Visio Viewer 2002 instead
of 2003. The answer is the problem I described some time ago: When clicking
on a hyperlinked shape in the Visio Viewer 2003 addon inside the Internet
Explorer, a security warning window pops up. This occurs only on some
computers, depending on their operating system and service packs AND only
with Visio Viewer 2003. Here's the link:

Well, I am using Visio Professional 2003 (11.3216.5606), and I got the
problem with this one.

John,

the only update I found was Visio 2003 Service Pack 1. This brought me to
version (11.4301.6360). Maybe the reason for the difference to your version
is that I have a German Visio release?

However, the problem still exists.

Since I have installed both Visio 2003 and 2002, I made a drawing with Visio
2002. In this case, the Visio Viewer 2002 displayed the shape text
correctly, although this text was retrieved from a user property via a text
field.
I made a similar drawing with Visio 2003 (this time with Service Pack 1),
saved it in the Visio 2002 format, and the viewer did not show the shape
text. So, there seems to be a difference in the Visio 2002 formats created
with Visio 2002 and Visio 2003.

Best regards,
Markus

Mark,

no, they are just strings. I am not using "Custom Properties" but
"User-defined Cells" as input for the text field. And these cells just
contain some characters in quotation marks.

Best regards,
Markus
