problems printing applied drawing effects

I have no problem with using regular gradient fills for two colors, but when
I try to use the transparency options, it looks great on the screen, but it
doesn't print out as being transparent--usually white replaces what should
have been transparent.

And when I try to print out scanned images in conjunction with the drawing
effects (sometimes with, and sometimes without transparency), it doesn't
appear at all (not even an "x").

Does anyone know why this is and how to fix it?

Also! When I am using their drawing objects and laying them on the page, I
can't move the objects so that it is slightly off the page--if the object is
already touching the edge of the page, any attempt to nudge it off is
useless. Is there any way to change this, cause I recall being able to do
this on an older version of Word.

Lastly, is there any type of file that I can covert my MS word drawing to,
except where the file quality won't be compromised?

If anyone can help me with any of these questions--I'll be very grateful and
much less stressful. Thanks.
