I have a question regarding a new Presario I purchased that has MS Office
2003 for Students and Teachers preinstalled for a trial period of 60 days.
The 60 days is up, and I selected the option to convert it to a full product
by using
the Product Key that was given me at the time of purchase. However, after
entering the Product Key, I'm told it is not a valid Product Key. I went to
the MS website and downloaded MS Office Standard 2003 60 trial version
(different from previous Student and Teacher version) and was given a new
Product Key, but then, again I'm told "the 60 trial version of MS Office 2003
has expired today, October 31, 2006." Therefore, I can not activate Word.
Questions:
1) Why am I told the new MS Office 2003 Standard trial for 60 days has
expired when using a new product key today?
2) Can I confirm that the new version was downloaded by looking in the
add/remove file in Control Panel? I did open that section, but I only see one
MS Office 2003 and the date is 10/13/06. If the download was successful, as
the message said it was, would I see two MS Office's loaded with two
different dates?
3) After the download, I received an virtual memory message saying "my
virtual memory is low." Is this possible because I now have MS loaded twice?
(This laptop is only two months old. How can one use up virtual memory so
quickly. The only download was today of MS Office?

After the download, I opened MS Word and a message box popped up requesting
I enter the Product key but, again, it's invalid number so I cannot activate
MS Word. I 'm reluctant to keep downloading over and over. Any suggestions
for a novice. I contacted HP Online support, but after following their
advise and
concluding they were not sure, I would prefer to receive a solution from
experts in the field.

Please explain 'Product Key that was given me at the time of purchase' do
you mean purchase of PC or when you converted trial to full version?

DL,

The "Product Key" is a string ofl etters and numbers, i.e.,
12W34-ER6EB-19DGG-ERWVT, that was given to me when I purchased the PC so I
could use MS Outlook.
After going into Start, Help and Support, information on this laptop appears
that it looks like there are different "Product Key" numbers for Windows,
Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. It's was also on a small piece of paper and
the Wizard asks for it in order to grant me assess to use MS Office.

You should never publish your product key, as if it was valid, people will
pick up on it, and it will eventually be blocked by MS
If you have a trial version (60days) you would have to purchase a product
key from MS to convert to the 'full' version.
I would'nt reccommend this, you would be better off purchasing the cd from
Amazon, and uninstalling any trial priot to installing.
Once a trial has expired you cannot reinstall the trial to start it again -
though I'm unsure what effect recovering your sys to factory state would
have.
I think you need to read your supplied PC specs to see whether you actuall
*purchased* a 'full' version of Office with it, or was supplied only a trial
version.
If indeed you purchased Office you will have to contact HP to resolve this
The product key located on the base of the laptop is the win key

Hi Kathleen,

MS Office 2003 Standard Edition is the same product as MS Office Student and Teacher's Edition, with a different license.

You won't be able to piggy-back trial editions of Office 2003 (i.e. if one has expired, installing a new one won't 'add time' to the
trial) <g>)

In the past the Student & Teacher's Edition wasn't one that could be converted online. The trials had to be uninstalled, the PC
restarted then the new edition installed (always order the CD, please <g>)

If you purchased the conversion through Microsoft you can contact MS for setup assistance using the phone numbers on
http://support.microsoft.com or http://microsoft.com/worldwide
