Problems with Publisher 95 and Windows XP

Mike Selvey

Hi all-

I am having problems getting my copy of Windows Publisher 95 to work
with my new computer, which runs on Windows XP. Is this a common
problem? Are there any "update" patches that can fix this? I have
literally HUNDREDS of files I've made and saved in Publisher 95, and I
don't want to give them up.

Thanks in advance for any help or ideas.

Publisher 95 should run on Windows XP.
Can you describe the problems you are
having and include any error messages
you are receiving.

Turn off your virus software before you install.
If that doesn't work, install in safe mode.

Hi John-

I was originally able to load Publisher 95, but at least every other
time I open it, it fails to work. Here's the latest dialogue box
message: "C:\\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT The system file is not
suitable for running MSDOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose
"close" to terminate the application." Close and Ignore buttons below.

All the functions are "greyed-out" and nothing works. Other times, I
can pull up "Blank Page" and it works. Really crazy!

Any ideas?

Thanks again.

I have installed 95 successfully on XP, all the functions work. Publisher 95
will balk at installing when your virus software is enabled. Try the
compatibility feature, right-click the 95 icon, properties, compatibility tab.
