Problems with settings?

When i open a .ppt the charachters do not appear
correctly. Some of them also overlaps. What may cause the
appearence of the unexpected "absurd" symbols like
thunder-symbols instead of an ordinary normal character
like "-" or "$"?

If there are fonts used in the presentation which you don't have installed
on your system, PowerPoint will substitute the closest font available. This
can results in the symptoms you describe. The fonts available to PowerPoint
are those installed in Windows.
