Problems with using workgroup email in project 2003

My company does not have Project Server so I am still using the old workgroup
email feature that I started using in the 2000 version. Unfortunately I am
experiencing 2 problems with the 2003 version when I receive a reply to a
"Request Progress Information" email (in which a user enters the # of hours
worked). When I click the "Update Project" button, 2 things happen. First,
I receive a message "An import error occurred. Check row x column -1".
Second any actual hours that were stored are deleted and the only ones that
remain are the ones specified in the email.

Any ideas?

Did you get this problem fixed where the actual hours are replaced
because I am having the same trouble in 2002 and no one replied back to my
question. Would appreciate if you could reply back and let me know if you
managed to solve this and how. Please as I am suffering with this problem.
