problems with Word documents

I'm new to using a computer so please bear with. After a
recent electrical storm and lots of lightning we lost all
power to the house. When the power came back on everything
seemed fine until I opened Word to start a document. When I
start to type the sreen blacks out the line that I begin
to type. Like I said I'm new to all this and any help for
the frustrated and near-beaten neophyte would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks,RL
