Produce resource usage report in specific format

I need a report which:

Scans the Tasks names assigned to a resource to produce a resource usage
report in the following format...

Resource name Task name 12/2 13/2 14/2
15/2 16/2 17/2..............

Joe
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Task1 X X X
X
Task2 X X X
X

Fred
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Task2 X X X X
X
Task3 X X
X

In the project Task1 may repeat as a task name but with different dates so I
would like to boil all the assignments for resource to tasks with the same
name but different dates down to a single line.

The existing Resource usage report displays each task assignment and date as
a new line on the report so it doesn't quite porovide what I'm looking for.

I need the report for an automatic rostering application of project.

Fiona,
From what you describe, you can't get there from here in a Project view
or report. However, with a VBA macro you can export whatever data you
need to another application (e.g. Excel) and format it any way you want.

However I question the part about task names repeating. In Project the
Task Name describes some detail effort being performed, normally by
labor resources, as part of any overall project plan. Except for
discontinuities brought about by leveling or manual splits, that unique
task is described by a single timeline (i.e. Start to Finish). It sounds
like you really have separate parts of a generic type task. As such,
each part that has its own timeframe should in fact have its own unique
task description, even if it is only differentiated by something as
basic as, "Prepare cost report - Jan" and "Prepare cost report - Feb".

Hope this helps.
