program is not a valid win32 application

I have publisher 2007, office 2007, and vista. I can create a document in
publisher, but when I try to access it after I have closed it, I get the
response "program is not a valid Win32 application". Before the word program
is the name of whatever document I am trying to open. Any ideas?

Do you have an anti-virus product? I'd do a scan of my hard drive if I were you.

Does this happen both when you try and double-click the file in
Explorer, and when you try and open it in Publisher using File > Open?
