Progress on Tasks prior to the start of the project.

I am working on a project where the programme was not used for the first year
and was then abandoned.
Having built a new programme I know how much work there is remaining for
each task.
I have no historical data, however engineers have been able to say that the
task is 80% complete as of April 1st when the programme was baselined. This
is in "Text 1".
So I have Task A 80% complete (in reality) on the programme with 10 hours
work to do and 0% complete.
If 5 hours are booked to Task A Project will show it as 50% complete.
What I want to do is calculate the real % complete automatically (I have
about 2000 tasks) - (ie 100-80 = 20% 50% of 20 = 10% 80+10 = 90% complete)
Can any one help?

If I understand you correctly, what I would recommend is that you use a
couple of custom fields and give them the necessary formulas. Something like:

Actual %C (or Number1)=(Duration1 - RemainingDuration)/Duration1

where: Duration1=BaselineDuration/(1 - Est %C from your Text1, in decimal
form)
