Project Compare

Can someone point me to get more information on Project Compare? After I do the project compare, I would like find out what tasks has been moved from one resource to another. Unfortunately, when I filtered on the resource, it only shows me the tasks currently assigned to the resource, not the ones that have been unassigned. I would like to the full picture (history) of what happen to each task, but I can't seem to find it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Deluth,
I assume you are referring to the "Compare project versions" add-in.

Generally tasks are not moved from one resource to another, rather
resources are assigned and re-assigned to different tasks. If you want
to see the difference in resource assignments between two Project files,
just run the compare and look at the difference between the Resource
Name columns (i.e. V1 and V2) and/or the Resource Names differences
column. This won't necessarily give you a "full history" because it only
shows what has changed between the two Project versions. If you want a
true full history of resource changes you will need to run the Compare
add-in between each successive version and then compile the results.

Hope this helps.

Thanks John. I am currently running MSP2003 - the Compare Project is in the toolbar.

Perhaps full history is a wrong choice of words. What I really need is a list of all tasks assigned to the resource in V1 and V2. The union of the tasks in V1 & V2, filtered by the resource. Is there a specific table I should select that would enable me to see all of this?

Deluth,
I haven't used Project 2003 much but I see that the "Compare project
versions" is no longer an add-in but is now included as a standard
utility in Project 2003 (perhaps it was also in Project 2002 - I never
got that version).

Basically what you want to see is a comparison based on the Resource
Usage view. I'm not sure you can get that directly with the Compare
Project utility. I tried it on one of my files and didn't get anything
for the Resource Usage view in the comparison file. I'd have to play
with it some more to see if there is a trick to doing so.

However, I do know that you can get the information you want. Long
before the Compare Project feature was added to Project I wrote my own
Project Compare macro. If the Compare Project utility won't do what you
need, a VBA macro can be developed that will.
