Project Costing

I am trying to calculate the cost of a project. Currently, project is
calculating project cost based on project duration. Example: I have a task
that takes 2 hours per day that I need to complete for a 2 week period. THe
other 6 hours will be spent on a differnt project. I want the current
project to calculate the cost based on planned work, not duration.

Fred,
First of all, Project never calculates cost based on duration. Project
calculates cost based on work and resource rate.

Now, what you are probably doing is confusing duration hours with work
hours. Duration is simply the time period during which a task is
accomplished. Work on the other hand is the effort one or more resources
will spend actually doing the task. If a single resource is assigned
100% to a task then duration and work WILL be the same.

What you really need is a fixed duration type task. Task types can be
set up globally under Tools/Options/Schedule tab, or can be individually
set up via Project/Task Information/Advanced tab. Set the task duration
for 10 days (2 working weeks). Then assign the resource for 20 hours of
work. If you look at the Resource Usage view, you will see the resource
allocated as 2 hours per day over 10 days. And the cost will be properly
calculated based on the work and resource rate.

Hope this helps.
