I was reading a post from a while ago:
http://groups.google.com/group/micr...63e076af42c/54fd199b672bc920#54fd199b672bc920
The author asked about using project for a time & material type of
project. I have been looking into MS project and would be using it for
this type of project. One of the posters wrote the following:
MSP is really not very good for
staff scheduling, time tracking, staff budgeting, or time-and-billing
applications even though it does incorporate certain elements of those
management activities as part of its project progress monitoring
functions.
Those are really what I'm looking to do. I would want to track a
construction type and be able to bill a client for time spent on
certain tasks of the project. For example, we are an A/V installation
company. I would want to have a project set up an view a master page
showing current status on say 5 different projects. I could go into one
project and see that we are ready to install speakers. I could assing
this job to 2 of my techs. They would receive the work order complete
the task, fill in a time card for the hours spent on it and close the
work order. Then I could go back into the project and run a report that
says I should bill for 16 hours for the speaker install. Is MS Project
good for this?
I have been looking at other online type software such as eproject,
quickbase and others. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks. Jason
