project owner pointing to incorrect database

We built a new sharepoint / project server on a new VM. (2007 SP2 through
june CU)
We then backed up the old production databases and saved them with new
names. We pointed the new Project server to the new databases. Everything
seems to be working except the project owner field. The correct owners show
up in project center but we cannot change the owner via edit project
properties. We can change all the other project properties. Now here is the
kicker, if I go to the old Project Server and change the owner field, the
change shows up in the new environment. Everything else seems to work.
Republishing via project pro doesn't help.

Hi Bikerjohn,
I didn't believe in magic until now.... I don't have any answers, just
questions.

What is the infrastructure setup, ie, are the server names the same for the
old and new Project Server, what happens if you take the old server off line,
are they both using the same SQL server?
