Project Owner / Status Manager

We are running Project Server 2007 / SQL Server 2005. I have (as Project
Server
Administrator) imported a project and set the owner to another Project
Manager. However, when team members submit task updates I receive
notifications (as well as the project owner). The Project Owner has since
accepted the updates, yet they still appear under Approvals > Task Updates
for myself?

I believe this may be caused by the fact that although I assign a new
Project Owner
after I import the plan, that I am still listed as the Status Manager
against each of the individual tasks. Is the solution to open Project
Professional after I import the plans, and change the Status Manager on every
task (by inserting the Status Manager column) to the project owner? Is there
a better way to achieve this?

Thanks.

Yes, that is the solution, the Status Manager field must be changed for
every assignment. The only available options in the dropdown for Status
Manager will be the person logged into the project at the time, and any
person that is set somewhere within the project at least once as a "Status
Manager". This means that if the new owner has never assigned him/herself
as a Status Manager on the project then you will not see them as an option
to select. They will have to go in themselves and set themselves as the
"Status Manager".

Also, there is no drag and drop capability on the "Status Manager" field
like there is on all other fields. This is a documented bug that is included
in the Service Pack 1 release.

I believe that SP1 only solves the problem for enterprise templates created
AFTER the installation of SP1. I know this because I ran into this problem
at a client site this past week. To solve the problem once and for all,
create a new project from each of your enterprise templates and save each
project as an MPP file. Then delete all of the current enterprise
templates. Finally, import each MPP file as an enterprise template using
the Import Project Wizard. I believe you will find that the problem is now
gone. Hope this helps.

Sorry to say, SP1 doesn't solve the problem.
I have installed new Project Server 2007 with MOSS SP1, and just after that
i published projects on it. So the problem is on. I can't assign no other
Status manager except those who are used already as s-managers in this
projects.
I didnot create any enterprise templates. I use template by default. I have
a few projects that i can delete. So could you tell me please the
instruction, what should i do to workaround that bug?

YOU cannot assign others as a Status Manager. The new Status Manager has to
open the project and then he/she can select his/her own name from the list.
Hope this helps.

I thought that's kind of a bug behaviour, that was fixed by SP1. But now i
see "This is not a bug - this is a feature". This "feature" design is not for
reallity. That makes me to develop tool that's modify sql server tables data
internally. Very bad.

It's not a bug and it's not a feature. It is how the tool actually works.
Live with it. :)

I myself have had the same Status Manager issue as others, but my problem
exists on multiple levels. It is actually affecting the permissions that I
set for my users.

1. I've had my users follow all instructions to change the Status Manager
to his/her name (open their project, insert Status Manager column, change to
them, Save and Publish).

2. At the same time, I am attempting to figure out how to get users
Read/Write access to their own projects, but Read/Only access to other
Project Manager's projects. When setting permissions for the My Projects
category I select the checkbox: "The User is the Project Owner or the User
is the Status Manager on assignments within that Project" and the radio
button "All current and future projects in Project Server database". When
testing this, the user can still open other PM's projects because (next
problem) when a user opens another's PM's project it automatically inserts
their name into the Status Manager column (usually it's showing up in line 0
of the accessed project). Consequently, due to the status manager changing
once the project is accessed, the permission gets overrided. Hope this is
making sense!

Therefore, my problem lies in 1) getting users Read/Write access to their
projects ONLY and Read/Only access to other PM's projects. I believe that
once this is solved I can manage to get users to change the Status Manager on
every project they create (albeit cumbersome since the Status Manager is me
since I created the Enterprise Template and btw, I've tried re-importing a
new template like a previous post suggested...another problem here with
Enterprise Templates and Status Manager...) and then everything should be
la-dee-da. Hopefully.

Can anyone offer help on this? My users permissions are set under the
Project Manager's Group and My Projects Category.

Mluna:

Assuming you're using 2007, you should update both your clients and server
to the latest patches. The issue with Status Manager and templates was fixed
about a year ago if I recall correctly.

Hi,

I'm the manager a project team. I have created some project that I want to
assign to another PM. I 'm currently the owner and the status manager for all
tasks in the project. But in the drop down list, i have only my name. Is it
possible to assign the project to another project manager already define in
the project manager group.

Hi,

the first stepp needs to be done by the other PM. Ask him to open the plan
and to assign himself as status manager toone task and to save the plan. If
he is status manager for at least one task, his name will be listed in the
drop down list and you can use it for any task you want to.

Hope that helps!
Regards
Barbara
