Is there a maximum number of external links and files or a combination that
you can link to in Project 2003?

Currently my file takes 2 minutes to open.....

Total # of External Links: 258
Total # of Files Externally Linked: 30

Is there some sort of tool you can use to check to see if your project file
is missing some data that could be causing a file to open slowly?

You are far from hitting the limits for external links or consolidated
files, but there are several things that might be slowing things down.
For example, do the files have inserted objects (e.g. pictures, Excel
objects, etc.)? Are you running several other concurrent applications
with Project? How much RAM do you have (most PCs today have more than
enough, but then you may have an older less endowed machine)?

It is also very possible that one or more of the files has some
corruption. To check that out go the the MVP website at:
http://www.mvps.org/project/faqs.htm
and take a look at FAQ 43 - File Bloat? Might be corruption.
