Project - Resource Report Options

Denise S

I am trying to run a resource report to capture "work" hours. The report
generated provides dates for the tasks (start and finish dates). I want to
run a report that provides resource name and work hours by month. I have
done some research and figured out that I should probably set up a new date
field with the formula to view by month, however, I do not know a forumula
for setting this up.

Can anyone help generate the report I am trying to get?

Thank you!

Denise,
Why not simply use the Resource Usage view and show Work in the
timescaled portion (right side), set up by months? If for some reason
that doesn't give what you want, please explain why not and we'll come
up with another approach.

Hi John -

Thank you for your quick reply! The reason I can not do as you mention
below is because I want to convert the report to an Excel Pivot table. The
report you suggest does not allow me to do this (at least I can't get it to
work). Do you have any suggestions for me? The only thing I can think of
doing is creating my own report which would entail using a formula to define
the date from duration to months, which I don't know how to do! Yikes...

Thank you for your help!

Denise,
OK, but you didn't mention that you needed to export the data. If you
were working with static data (i.e. non-timescaled), you would be able
to use an export table to save to an Excel Pivot Table. However, you can
use the "Analyze timescaled data in Excel" utility/add-in found on the
Analysis toolbar. Start with the Resource Usage view and then use the
utility. It will put the data you want into Excel, then you can
re-configure it for a pivot table.

Hope this helps.

Thank you John. I have not used a message board before for help. As a first
timer, I realize now that I have not provided all the necessary information,
I will try to be more specific in the future!

However, I have one last question on this topic. I am using MSP Standard
2002 (again something I should have provided earlier) and it is my
understanding that Analyze timescaled data in Excel utility/add-in is not
available in this version. Can you tell me what version this option is
available in? I may try for an upgrade!

Thanks, Denise S

Denise,
No problem about how you posted. On of my many character flaws is that I
like to rib people a little when they throw a curve. I find many people
do not supply sufficient information to give a good answer and I
understand because describing a problem completely yet succinctly is not
all that easy. You're doing fine.

With regard to the utility/add-in, Project 2002 is the one version I
don't have. The Analyze timescaled data in Excel was provided as an
add-in for Project 2000. I don't know if it was still an add-in for
Project 2002 or if it was an included utility. You might want to take a
look at our MVP website at:
http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm
and check our FAQ 46 - Analysis toolbar

It was included as a built-in utility with Project 2003.

As far as I know, the add-in can still be downloaded at:
http://microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=A7E06469-ED3E-4DAB-8

Hope this helps.
