Project Server 2004 Install Problem

I get this message when trying to point to an exist SQL db during ms progect
server 2003 install

'you are attempting to connect to a microsoft project central 2000 or
microsoft project server 2002 database. either update that database for use
with project server 2003, or connect to a different database'

the dba assure's me that the datbase was created correctly

Well,
First thing I'd do is to ask them exactly what they did and show me the CD
they used.

Second thing I'd do is to create a new db and see if that works.
