Project Server and Mysql

Has anyone tried this yet?

I am curious if it will work...

Was thinking about it ... my hunch is MySQL won't work because it
doesn't do Views, Triggers, etc. but maybe that erroneous. Was thinking
of giving it at try first with PostgreSQL which has these things. Was
also looking into possibilty of it being licensed such to prevent this,
or if there were software switches in it to prevent it ... hadn't yet
found out answers.

PostgreSQL huh? I've haven't looked into that one yet.

I'll check it out, thanks for your input!

I am hoping one of these Project Gurus will pipe in...

This is probably blazing new ground ...

More like rehashing basic requirements.<g> Only Microsoft SQL is supported.

Yes, you are correct. That clearly is what is said.

"Supported" could mean any or all of the following:

1. "It will only work with Microsoft SQL server"
2. "We've only tested it with Microsoft SQL, so know nothing of other
servers."
3. "If you ask ask us questions about another server, we won't answer
the questions."

As an intellectual excercise, I was thinking of it anyway and giving a
small amount of consideration of trying it on PostgreSQL simply because
it has a larger feature set than MySQL. Clearly the scripts were writen
for Microsoft SQL (and I think they also "support Oracle". There are so
many other SQL servers around and in use, would be good to know if they
could be made to work also. To me, "work" and "support" are two
different issues.

I'm going to try to get and read the licesse and see if it REQUIRES any
specific server. If not, probably next version of project will no doubt,
after this exchange, have that wording ... :).

Rob:

You can save projects to just about any ODBC data store, however, the
Project Server database must be on SQL server or MSDE. You can use Project
Server to display projects stored in foreign data sources in a work group
environment providing that you manage the DSNs. Supported, in my mind,
includes things like Stored-procedure and trigger support. Thanks for buying
the book.

What are the limitations of using MSDE? Will that support the Enterprise
features?
