Project Server architecture question

Dave

I have what is probably a dumb question, but let me ask it anyway.

In a Project Server/Project Pro/Project Standard 2002 environment,
what is the relationship between the MSP_* tables comprising a given
mpp file and the MSP_* tables in the SQL Server database? Do the MSP_*
tables reside in the mpp file as snapshots of the SQL Server tables,
or are they views of the MSP_* tables in the database, or what?

Thanks
Dave

This goes back to the .mpd file format that I believe made its introduction
in Project 2000. The .mpd format was an Access database with the MSP_
tables as you have surmised. The MSP_ tables in the Project Server database
are for all projects saved to Project Server. The MSP_ tables in the .mpd
file are snapshots of the information for the project in question only.

As an aside, the MSP_WEB_ side of the database deals primarily with PWA
information and the MSP_VIEW _ tables have precalculated and arranged data
for use in showing data in PWA as well as being a starting place for
building the OLAP cube used by Portfolio Analyzer and Portfolio Modeler.
