We use the "Project Center" in PWA to report the "status" of projects.
In order for the earned value calculations to be meaningful, the Status
Date needs to be reset each week. Also, in order for our "Finish Date
Status" (which just looks at whether or not and/or how far the
original completion date has slipped) to be meaningful, unfinished work
needs to be rescheduled each week. Currently, in order for me to know
whether or not the PMs have done this each week (i.e. changed the
status date and rescheduled unfinished work), I have to go out and look
at each project. If the PM hasn't done it, I change a custom field
that causes the other fields (e.g. finish date status, go-live status,
and earned valule measures) to change to question marks - which
basically means that we don't know if the project is red/yellow/green
because the PM hasn't updated the schedule.
I'd like to do this automatically. I believe that one way to do it
would be to look for "remaining work" in the past. In other words, if
today is Monday and there is "remainig work" in the period of time
starting with the beginning date of the project and up to the previous
Friday, that would mean that remaining work has not been rescheduled.
Problem is, I can't figure out how to get MSP to give me "remaining
work" over a specific time period. Also, can't figure out how to tell
the Status Date without opening project (no field?).
Any suggestions (including a better way to look at this)?
Thanks,
Dave
