Project summary tasks to show work within the phase

I am working in Project 2000 and enter all durations as hours as we calculate
all task as man hours. In the summary task if we have all tasks in that
phase starting one after another with finish to start links we can see the
number of man hours needed for that part of the project in the duration
column. However if the project is not that helpful (as is usual) the number
of hours is an elapsed duration (the number of hours between start and
finish). Is there a way that I can have the total number of hours needed for
each phase displayed? In the summary task would be good but not absolutly
necessary if there is another way.

Thanks in advance.

JaneH,
Well the first problem is that you are confusing duration with work.
Duration is the difference in working time between the start and finish
of a task. In the case of a summary line, it is the difference in
working time between the start of the earliest task to the finish of the
latest task under the summary. Duration of a summary line is NOT
additive.

Work on the other hand is the estimated amount of effort (this is
typically man-hours) to actually perform the task. Work is additive. You
need to convert your thinking to the Work field. Then you will get what
you need.

It sounds like you are pretty new to using Project. I suggest you go to
our MVP website at, http://www.mvps.org/project/links.htm, and click on
the link to fellow MVP, Mike Glen's, tutorials.
