Proposal Resource Plan not reflected in View Assignments

Hi,

I'm trying to figure out how MS Project Server 2007 works when it comes to
Proposals.

We have a proposal that where we have defined some work/ task details and
assigned some resources to it. Aslo, we have created a Resource plan with
the same resources and specified a different committment, set the 'Calculate
resource utilization from" option to 'Resource Plan'.

When we go to PWA 'View Assignments" the resources show the work that we
entered in the work/ details part of the proposal. When we go to PWA 'View
Availability' we see the hours we entered in the 'Resource plan' for the
proposal.

Is this discrepancy between the View Assignments and View Availability
normal? If so, what is the reasoning?

It sounds as though you chose the option to use the Resource Plan to
calculate availability for the resource. The assignments view is always
going to show actual assignments and never show resource plan allocations.
Look at the options closely when you go to attach a resource plan to a
proposal. You will see that you have a gread deal of flexibility with these
including the ability to use the actual assignments up to a certain date and
then the resource plan beyond that date to cacluclate availability in the
system

To piggyback on Gary's excellent response to you, it makes no sense that you
would do both of the following:

1. Assign resources to tasks in the Proposal.
2. Create a Resource Plan for the Proposal with the same resources.

You only need to do one of the above. Using the Resource Plan offers you
the ability to "reserve" resources at less than full-time (100% Units) in
each time period, so I think that is the more useful approach. I would
suggest that you remove the resources assigned to tasks, remove them from
the Proposal team, and republish the Proposal. Hope this helps.

that's the key! The View Assignment view only shows "committed"

Thank you!
