Public Folder Rule

I have a public folder set up on an exchange 5.5 server
with excel and word doc's in the folder. Is there a way
to set up a rule for a public folder to notify the owner
of the folder anytime one of these documents is changed?
The office versions on the clients are office 03. I saw
the rules you can set up for that folder for adding
something to the folder but nothing as detailed as I
need. Any help much appreciated.

Hi Aaron,

Thanks for your posting here.

Based on my knowledge, you can set rules for the public folder if you are
the owner of the folder. To do so, refer to the following steps:

1. On a client computer, open Outlook. You must have owner permission for a
public folder to create or modify rules for the folder.

2. Right-click the public folder and click Properties.

3. On the Administration tab, click Folder Assistant....

4. In the Folder Assistant dialog box, you can select rules or even create
rules to send notifications to a given mailbox if an item has been posted
or added for that folder.

When you create a rule, it is active by default.

I realize you can create a rule to add or remove an item
from a public folder but will it detect changes to a
certain file. Ex. an excel spreadsheet that is already in
the public folder and has some information added to it
then saved. Can you set up a rule to inform the owner
that the spreadsheet has been changed. Thanks for your
help on this one!

Based on my tests, I am afraid that you are unable to setup a rule for the
public folder to detect the change of an item in it. Therefore, it is
impossible to reach your aim. Your understanding is appreciated.

A rule can't do that but a folder event script can.
