Publication created using Master page(s)

I am producing a handbook which has the same (complex) design for each
individual Section [chapter] page. Therefore I have created a master page in
Publisher (2003 Small Business Edition, XP) which is appropriate for this.
When it is not a new Section page, I am inserting a Text Master page which
is a blank version of the Section Master page - same layout and page number
but no text boxes, drawing etc. Each page, be it Section page or Text page,
in Publication view are sequentially page numbered at the bottom, no problem,
but in addition there occasionally has to be a single number at the top of
the first page of each new Section which needs updating to indicate the start
of each section (but does not appear on any other page of that section). I
have created a text box on the Section master page in which I have typed the
number "1" (which has to be in Arial 36) to indicate that one has arrived at
Section 1 of the Handbook. I want to change that "1" to "2" or "3" and so
on to indicate that the reader has arrived at Section 2 or 3 etc of the
Handbook. Does any one have a suggestion please as to how to update that
Section# other than creating a copy of the master page and then on the copy
of the first Masterpage, delete "1" from the text box and change it "2" or
"3" etc as the Sections change? Any assistance gratefully received, as
always.

There is no other way unless you make several Master Pages at the beginning of your
project, each with its own section number. Not much different than how you are doing
it.

Ho hum - but at least I now know that I understand pretty well how to use
Masterpages, even if it wasnt the answer I wanted to hear! So, I had better
get to work - I have 35 Section Masterpages to create!
Thanks for your trouble, Mary
