Publisher 2002 - problems saving as 98 and 2000 after XP SP2

Installed XP SP2 but have discovered problems saving Pub
2002 files to Publisher 98 and Publisher 2000 formats
which is important to me as I need to get Publisher files
to people/offices people with 98 or 2000.

Now get message on most publications saying that that
pictures on page x are too big for earlier versions etc.
I tried converting files that converted OK before I
installed XP-SP2 and they just will not convert now
unless various pictures are stripped out. It does not
object to all graphics - just some but I cannot discern a
pattern in file types. Weird!

Reinstalled Publisher 2002 - no difference.

Tried another PC that has not yet had XP-SP2 installed
and the files converted OK so it must be something to do
with XP SP2.

You are getting that message because Publisher 98 and 2000 only support
uncompressed bitmaps, with a maximum size of 16mb. Publisher 2002 does not
have this limit, so you are extended that error/warning.

I am guessing that it is probably a coincidence that you haven't encountered
large enough images saving back to oldre versions. SP2 is unrelated to
Publisher and it's features.

Thanks for reply. However, I don't think it's a
coincidence that I have not encountered this before. And
that does not explain why Publisher 2002 files that
previously converted OK (at least they saved - renamed -
without giving me any error messages) no longer will. I
tried a few! Indeed, only an hour before installing XP
SP2 I converted one to Pub 98. The same original
unaltered file now gives rise to lots of error messages
about graphics being too big. All of the original
graphics are under 1 MB each. The whole Publisher file is
less than 10 MB. Only difference to my system - XP SP2.

Can you zip and send me a sample publication?
And is the whole Publisher file 10mb in Publisher 2002 or in Publisher 98?
