Publisher 2003 hangs up

Can anyone help?
I completely reinstalled Windows XP and all of my applications. Everything
works fine except Publisher 2003. I have used 'add/remove programs' and
removed Publisher 3 times, reinstalling from the CD - using different
configurations such as Complete, typical and Custom. Each time the install
seems to go OK and I can open Publisher, but whenever I try and do something
(such as open an existing dorument, create a new dicument, etc.) Publisher
just stops and I get a message at the top of the screen saying 'not
responding'.
I have also installed the same version of Publisher on my laptop as an
emergency, and it works fine there.
