a) Have you checked View > Pictures?
b) Have you tried updating your video drivers?

G

I have the same problem - I've tried updating the video driver and yes I do
have view pictures turned on. If I scoll the page up and back down the
missing section of a picture is not redrawn - do you have this?
One possible conflict I have is with Dragon Naturally Speaking 8 - if I have
this loaded - no pictures - remove it and restart publisher - pictures !
I hope this might help - Scansoft are looking into it for me.

Yes I have view picture checked and I can't imagine I would have to update my
video card since my computer is brand new from Dell with one of the best
video cards/driver. I never had this problem with pub. 2002. Paid good money
for this and I am now doing my newsletters back on my old computer with 2002.
Very disappointed.

E

ezwez

I have no idea what is going on.. they come, they go.. when I print to a pdf
they appear in the pdf but still not in my newsletter.. they are there when
created but as soon as I close and re open they go away!!! My computer is
brand new, the best video card/driver with media xp I can't imagine it can't
handle it.

J

JoAnn Paules

Bad assumption. The computers are not necessarily loaded with the latest
drivers. The information is basically "pumped in", not "installed". Make us
happy - check for new drivers. If it *is* the latest, then you can say,
"Neener, neener, nyah, nyah. You were wrong! What next?"

(Of course if there are newer drivers available, you owe Ed big time.)

Video cards and video drivers are not the same thing.
Video drivers allow your computer to access your video card. Sometimes they
don't work properly, and are updated. Sometimes, they don't work properly,
and aren't updated.

When Dell build your computer, they take a preinstallation disc with all the
drivers on, and use it to make your hard drive look exactly like all the
other ones leaving Dell.
They don't update this disc every time a manufacturer releaes a new driver.
So it is unlikely that the drivers that are loaded on your computer are the
very latest ones, even if your graphics card is the very latest model. In
fact, especially if it's the very latest model - older, more mature graphics
cards don't tend to need as many driver updates.

What graphics card do you have?

What happens if you go to Start > Control Panel > Display > Advanced >
Advanced > Troubleshoot and slide the hardware acceleration down a few
notches?

From the description of your problem, as JoAnn says, it is with 99%
certainty a problem with the video drivers.

E

ezwez

Ok I'll give it a go.. now where exactly would I go to update this.. I guess
I need to find out what brand of driver I have and then go to their web site
and look around, eh? Hey if you're right I will be HAPPY!

I would assume that you know which card is in your computer. Go to the mfr's
website and search for drivers.

If you don't know which card, let us know and we'll help you figure it out.
We really do want to make you happy - honest. :)

Yes - this indicates that your video card is the ATI Radeon X800XT -
manufactured by ATI, and as such the drivers can be found at www.ati.com

J

JoAnn Paules

Okay - now I need to know specifically which version of Windows you have.

Same here.. sometimes I have pictures.. sometimes not!! So frustrating!! I
just spent 4 hours on my old computer doing a newsletter for a person in Pub.
2002 since 2003 would not show my pictures. No improvement with graphics
card update driver. And I spent HOW much to have Publisher 2003 and CAN'T
USE IT!
I WANT MY MONEY BACK.. Did you solve your problem? I have no idea what
could be causing it since its not consistent.. GOOD ONE .. MICROSOFT!!

J

JoAnn Paules

I know it seems so easy to blame Publisher and/or Microsoft but I'd be
willing to put money on the issue NOT being caused by either. Try another
video driver if it's available. If you think about the primary purpose of
Publisher being a DTP program, it will make sense about the program being so
darned picky about video drivers and printer drivers.
