Publisher 2003 Security Update KB894542

Since downloading and installing Security Update KB894542 I have been unable
to open Publisher documents created by contacts and emailed to me. I can only
open documents created on my own computer. Uninstalling the Update resolves
the problem. I don't want to leave my computer vulnerable so how do I solve
this?
