Publisher 2003 won't import pictures. Frame only, no pictures

I follow the standard procedures for importing pictures into my Publisher
2003 document. It's as though the program thinks it's working, but no
picture is visible. The frame is visible, along with the little nodes at the
corners and sides, but the picture is blank.

Thanks for your suggestion. I checked and the setting is already on
"Detailed Display. There must be something else going on.
