publisher 2007 and vista

I have recently changed to Publisher 2007 under Microsoft Vista. I cannot
get my web site to work when I alter it and upload with Cute FTP because of
the alterations Publisher now makes alterations (it didn't in past versions)
to the published page numering not starting from page one as in the past.
How do I remove or re-set the automatic page numbering allocated by publisher
and start the numbering of my large web site from page 1. This is because I
use Xara throughout my site for my fancy buttons which have written within
them the original page numbering system. When publisher changes the page
numbers my site can't work properly. It would be impossible to change all
105 page numbers in Xara each time I alter the site, which is often. I have
tried to publish the site with Publisher but of course it doesn't change the
page numbers within the fancy buttons.

Barry,

You didn't say, but it sounds like you were using Pub 2000 before, and there
are some important differences in Pub 2007. As you have noticed, Pub 2007
names each page an arbitrary three digit number. Go to each page > Tools >
Web Options and in that dialog you can custom name each page under Publish
to the Web in the File name field. You can name each page "Page001.htm" or
you can use any file name. I would suggest that you use a three digit format
instead of "Page1.htm". Or you can use "contact.htm", or some other file
name that is more descriptive than "Page001.htm". Don't use any spaces and
be careful about mixing upper and lower case...most people suggest using
only lower case. You can use a dash or an underscore in the file name if
necessary.

Another important difference is that Pub 2000 did not use a subfolder to
organize your web files. The index.html file (your home page) and all the
graphics and your other web page files were dumped into your "Publish"
folder. Publisher 2007 produces an index.htm file (note that the default
..htm extension is used instead of .html as in Pub 2000), plus an
"index_files" folder that contain all your other pages and all the
supporting graphics. This is important in how you write you links in Xara
MenuMaker. Using Pub 2000 the links would be
http://youwebpage.com/index.html or http://youwebpage.com/Page2.html . In
Pub 2007 the link would be http://youwebpage.com/index_files/index.htm or
http://youwebpage.com/index_files/Page001.htm Be sure to include
"index_files" in the path.
