Publisher documents appear without clipart

Using the wizard, I choose a publication for print (i.e., Kid Stuff
Newsletter) and in the preview window, there is no art work or clipart in the
document. Each time I try to click something on the document, the entire
screen reloads, without the menu I'm trying to access. Eventually the program
freezes up. I have downloaded the service packs and security updates, I have
uninstalled, rebooted and reinstalled parts of the Office suite and all of
it, and I still cannot use Publisher. This is Office 2003 Professional. I
have used Word without any difficulties, but have not tried the other parts
of the program. My os is Windows XP with all serrvice packs and updates.

I have just answered my own question. While searching the postings (again)
for similar issues, I noticed a reply to a similar problem that suggested
changing the hardware accelerator downward. I tried that and it worked, but
now I may face issues with DirectDraw, whatever that is!

Turning down the acceleration is a only curing a symptom, not the disease. Your
video/graphics driver needs upgrading. Go to the manufacturer's web site and
look around for an updated driver.

Read the threads further. If turning down the hardware acceleration
works, it's a SIGN from the 'bove that the problem in fact lies with
your graphics driver, which you need to update to the latest version
(downloadable from the website of your graphics card manufacturer). Once
that's done, you can try turning the hardware acceleration back up.

Silly me! I assumed that the manufacturer would have sent the new computer
with whatever updates were necessary. I have updated the graphics driver and
now all is well. Thanks for the quick response. -Bennae

Thanks for the quick and valuable advice. Silly me! I assumed that the
manufacturer would have sent the new computer with whatever updates were
necessary. I have updated the graphics driver, returned hardware accelerator
to its original setting and now all is well.
