Publisher error when trying to open recently created document

I have a user that has created a document in oublisher and when he tries to
open it he gets the following error. I have pasted a portion of it herein.

Error 3101 misuse of % substitution % (less than 255 characters)

Has anyone ever ran accross this?

When you use the %'s around the variable name, it substitutes it right then and there, then looks at your new line and says..uh oh.. it is over 256 characters long. What is he/she doing?...mail merge?
