Publisher won't open file

I am having serious issues with Publisher XP/2002

Creating a simple 2 page file, after closing Publisher refuses to open
the file at all, to the point of crashing the application.
Deciding not to create the file for a 3rd time and loosing it, i
decided that after every change i would save a new copy of the file.
All I have done is just added images when it stops working. it doesn't
even have to be the same image. at any random point it will just stop
working.

Help please!

I have completely uninstalled Office and reinstalled. this was not an
issue until about 2 weeks ago. there would be about 10 publications
made every week, and these are no different than the others. All the
latest updates are installed.

What happens is it bring up that message about closing Publisher and
has a tickbox to 'automatically reopen' it errors on the pub.exe file.

I'd look at my hardware. Maybe a video/graphics driver.

Do some clean-up. Empty your temp folder. Or at least part of the temp folder.
Keep your setup files. In Windows Explorer type %temp% in the the address bar.
Empty your Internet temp files as well. In Internet Explorer, tools, Internet
options, delete files.

I'mhaving somewhat the same problem. Here's my situation

I've recycled an old file to create the current newsletter. Worked on it,
saved, reopened, worked, saved - all on my home computer. Needed to work on
some more and transferred it to a USB key to take to work. Home computer's
version is Pub 2002; work is Pub 2003. I continued to work on the file at
work, then saved it to the keydrive. I can open the file in Publisher at
home successfully one time. I can work on it and can 'save' it. However,
once I close Publisher and try to reopen the resaved file - I can't. Moving
it to the other computer - that file can't be opened either. I need to have
the file at home because that's where the archive is, old support files, etc.
and that's where I have Adobe Acrobat, which is what I need to send the Pub
file to the printer. So, I can work on the file on my work computer, send it
to my home computer, where I'm allowed to open the file without saving it,
and thenPDF it. But that's really not what I'd like to do.

Help?

Eek.

Double eek.

Did you save directly to the keydrive?

Yes, I saved to the key drive. Note that Pub 2003 on the work laptop
continues to work well with this file, while Pub 2002 on home computer only
likes to open it once and then gives up once it's been updated.

Thanks.

The key drive is the problem. Never directly save to a removable drive. Save to
the local hard drive, copy to the removable drive. When you are ready to edit
the file, copy back to the local drive.

Mary,

I have done what you have asked for. Issue not resolved.
I am weary about the hardware being an issue, since this computer has
been working for over a year now and only recently just started having
the problem.
The only difference is that the publisher files are being created by a
different user (so new profile)

Have you looked at your firewall settings? Do you have Norton?

Drivers need to be updated when an update is available. Sometimes it takes a
year before the manufacturer has had enough complaints to justify an upgrade. I
have an 18 month old computer that I have updated the video driver three times
from the manufacturer's web site.

I was eventually able to fix this by making sure all the linked objects were
available to the pub file on my home (desktop) computer. One of the files
was a Word doc, and I converted that to a pub textbox. Thank you for your
help.
